Fadhil comment following his election

I am so happy. I want to thank everyone who helped and voted. I would definitely represent everyone, not only those who voted for me. I will be everyone's Gen Sec, not just for the Hacks.

I'm really really scared.
I'm not one for competition and doing it was a massive step.
I decided at Christmas because the Union has given me so much I wanted to do something for it.
I have a commitment to the Media group.

Fisher re-elected as Environment & Ethics Officer

In what was undoubtedly the most tearful victory thus far, Aled Dilwyn--and, as he reminded everyone on air a few minutes later, never forget the Dilwyn--Fisher won the hotly-contested election for Environment & Ethics Officer. Tears of joy came from Fisher's closest supporters as he emerged with 673 votes to Doug Oliver's 627.

Said Fisher, "I am very excited to have won. This is my life and passion, and I think my experience and knowledge came in my favour." In spite of the close election margin, Fisher says he was "always confident of his strong campaign." In his own words, he now plans to get "very drunk, before going home to get away from London."

Green gossip

James Ketteringham

It is looking pretty bad and I think I'm going to lose.

Reaction to Carys Morgan's election.

Chris Heathcote
I'm really happy because she worked really hard on it.

How do you think this will affect your legacy at the LSE?
It's irrelevant. Carys ran on her own promises.

Why Turquoise?

Bright and vibrant and different.

What is Carys running for next year?
She hasn't made up her mind about what she's running for next year yet.

Beaver editors.

I think Steve Gummer looks sexy in a tie.

Anti Racism results have been announced.

Amina: 581
Emmanuel: 553
Abz': eliminated
Spoilt: 415

Ruhana Ali

How do you feel?
Good. I am really confident, happy. It is an experience, I really enjoyed it.

According to some people the campaign has been ternished by racism?
There was a racist element but overall it was fun.

What did you feel about the fact that Alexandra Vincenti was campaigning for James Ketteringham?
I was shocked when I found out. I was upset and disappointed.I think sabbs shoudl be neutral in these races.

Prediction for tonight:
Really close between Zoe and Fadhil
No idea ed welfare.
comms: Simon
treasurer: Libby

James Caspell on the Howard Davies referendum

The important part is not so much the result but the fact that there was a referendum in the first place. This process makes the Director more accountable and democratically legitimate in the eyes of the student body.

Are you surprised by the result?

No. He picked the opportune moment to send out the global email. The school filibustered the process which delayed the announcement of the online referendum.

Women's officer race results

The results shoudl read as follows:
Daisy: 721
Helen: 422
RON: 144
Spoilt: 273
Votes: 1562

Answer's to Doug Oliver's accusation about Fadhil.

As a reminder:
Doug Oliver said that the Greens endorsed Fadhil because he was more easily usable.

Fadhil answer:

This is completely wrong. I was endorsed because they felt I was the best candidate for their policies. I am the progressive candidate. No one can use me.

Answer from Aled Fisher - LSE SU Green Party
Disgrace. We endorsed him because we thought he’s the best candidates. We’re not idiots and we endorse the person we thought would be the best campaign at LSE. There was a vote of all members. Anybody present at the meeting would tell you there was a big discussion. None of it was about him being impressionable.

Doug Oliver

How are you feeling?

Good. It’s too early too tell. I think I’ve lost. I’ve done a good campaign against a strong political machine.

Did you run against Aled or to make a difference in E and E?

I want to make a difference for E and E and for the SU. This year as many other students do I feel a nasty and unrepresentative agenda has been pushed.

Were you running against Sutherland?

No. I am running against a number of things. First of all lots of focuse on the basics of running the SU and recycling have been lost, not enough has been done for water fountains. One of reasons why the focuse was lost was Sutherland

How do you compare Adrian’s monitoring of the elections compared to yours?

Very apathetic. Sabb election is not highly contested. The AU election turn out is down. Adrian has done a good job even though he could have split votes earlier tonight.

Prediction for tonight

Fadhil -
I think that Greens endorsed Fadhil cause more useable.
Ruhana
Libby
Not sure about comms but maybe Dan

Dan Sheldon

Starting note: Dan declares:
I have a wet arse.

How are you feeling?
I am a tiny bit drunk. In terms of the Communications Officer race I think I have a good chance. But I do think Kayt [Berry] is a force to be reckoned with.

What do you think about running against candidates who have Media Group experience?

It was to my advantage. I feel it helped me differentiate myself from the other candidates. I managed to dominate the agenda. I also set the tone of the campaign: RAG, campaigning, not whether I am competent to oversee the media group or not.

Predictions for the other races

General Secretary – Zoe Sullivan
I just had dinner with Zoe and I think she’s in with a good chance. I’m really not religious but am praying for her to win.

Treasurer – Libby Meyer
I’m good friends with both Jeff [Courtney] and Libby but Libby put in a better street campaign so she should win.

Ed Welfare – Not sure
I started off thinking James [Ketteringham] wouldn’t be up to the job but I have changed my opinion now. Do think he faces an uphill battle but sincerely hope he does win.

Anything else?
It’ s very hot in here and am quite nervous.

Helen Roberts

How are you feeling?
Tired

How was campaigning?

I feel it was slightly pointless. People were getting pissed off being handed flyers.

How confident are you?

The count is going on right now and it’s not looking too hopeful.

Do you think you might lose because you were the seen as the right candidate against the left candidate?

No idea. Most of it is name recognition. But it does definitely make a difference even though I call myself center-right

Prediction

Incredibly close for lots. No way to tell. Dan campaign’s was huge but there is no way to know.

Residences Race to be announced...

according to our sources, the results are as follows:
Number of votes: 1558
Louise Robinson: 1029
RON: 293

Steve Gummer

"This is the most dictatorial count I have ever seen. Takes all the fun out of it. Adrian is a killjoy!"

Aled Fisher

It's like a military machine....I'm not the first one to say it!

Alcohol unwanted

Adrian Beciri, Returning Officer has banned the consumption of alcohol in the count room.

While most of the crowd disputed the decision claiming it was not in line with the spirit of previous count nights, the decision prevailed.
